The New York City chapter would like to thank DinnerGuest Shea Owens for joining us last night for din at Son Cubano. Shea was a source of a tremendous amount of advice and inspiration. Just by sharing her story of her own career development — from just after college to pursuing a graduate degree to planning the balance of career and family — she offered an encouraging example to her younger sisters.
B. Shea Owens, AB Princeton 1994, JD Columbia University 1998
Corporate Associate, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton
Shea found herself in Kenya right after college as a Fulbright Fellow testing the real-world applicability of her prize-winning senior thesis. It was in Kenya that she participated in the United Nations Environmental Program; these experiences cemented her to desire to pursue a law degree in order to effect change. At Cleary Gottlieb, she essentially jets around the world and tells governments how to improve their financial state without breaking any laws. Oh, and did we mention that she takes incredible adventures to places we can’t even pronounce?
