I wanted to title this post “need-to-haves” but, really, who am I to say what someone “needs”?!
For those of you who are finally getting ready to shop again (!), here are some items to note!
- Express Pencil Skirts - I bought these in five colors. No joke. These fit great, are long enough to be office-appropriate, are high-waisted enough to be flattering, and must be vanity sized since I bought a size six (I am definitely a size eight). $59.50 though they’ve been on sale the past couple of weeks.

- Mango Leather Bag - This is “supposed” to be for dudes, but, um, hello?! Shiny black leather bag that’s big enough to hold my 17″ laptop and polished enough to make it clear I’m not a college kid? Love. It. Sadly, it’s not online, but I picked one up at the SoHo Mango for $199, marked down from $240.
- Rebecca Moss biz card holder - My biz cards are larger than standard American cards, so the metal case my mom engraved with “Dragon Lady” for my college graduation? Ne marche pas. These babies, however, not only come in fabulous fun colors, but they also make it a breeze to pluck out a card. Plus, it happens that I have the matching padfolio thing, which makes me feel matchy-matchy coordinated. In a good way. $60.

- Blank Muji “Weekly Magazine” Notebook. I have a hard time scribbling down ideas sometimes because I feel like I am wasting paper (don’t ask). This puppy, though, is a big juicy notebook of blank paper that reminds me of coloring book paper. The lack of lines are great because I oftentimes scribble ideas in the form of flowcharts and pictures, and the “low” quality of the paper is also great because if I’m going to be “wasting paper”, might as well waste the cheap stuff. $2.50.
- Epilady Shaver / Epilator. One of my recessionista strategies has been cutting out the waxes. Those suckers can run up to $200 a pop at places like Bliss Spa. (!) However, I hate shaving, so what’s a girl to do? My best friend swore by her Epilady so much that I popped over to Macy’s to pick one up several weeks ago. I’m sold. It’s best used while watching Movie & A Makeover cranked loud on the weekend but I must say, I’m never going back to waxin’ on, waxin’ off.

Have any of you found items lately that you think every grrl should check out?
