On Leaving Corporate America

Ever thought about leaving a safe corporate job and plunging into starting something radically different? So did Valerie Weingrad, a former star in sales who dreamed of literally setting sail. She now owns her own company that gives private yacht tours in the Mediterranean. In “Sales to Sails” by Cynthia Good at Pink Magazine:

“It used to be about money and accumulating things. But now, it’s about lifestyle – the ability to go to the places I want – on my terms.”

Weingrad has learned firsthand that while there are no guarantees at sea, there aren’t any in the corporate world either. Jobs and careers come and go, but a calling does not. “Women today are taught to climb the ivory tower. Then what? You have nothing.”

Aye, aye!

Not any different for us, either. Many of the movies where you see the snakes in the grass slithering around are true. They all carry knives and want your job. I reached the p;oint where I said, if you want it, take it, dummy.
As for Portland, if you wanted that bad with that much rain in your face, I’ll help you into the corner office as I pack my bags and head into the southwest.
I write books now, in sunny Tucson and view it all much they way you do. To hell with it all. The corporate “ladder” is a joke. Who needs it. Battle your way to the top, and everyone under you, your “pals,” suddenly turn jealous and will cut your throat out of jealously.
Friends? Nah.
