Tal Ben-Shahar is a happiness guru.  He studied undergrad and doctorate at Harvard (psychology and organizational behavior, respectively) and currently teaches Harvard’s largest course, “Positive Psychology.”  So I suspect he knows a thing or two about happy.

Here are six tips from Dr. Happy:

  1. Give yourself permission to be human
  2. Happiness lies at the intersection between pleasure and meaning
  3. Happiness is mostly dependent on our state of mind, not on our status or the state of our bank account
  4. Simplify
  5. Remember the mind-body connection
  6. Express gratitude, whenever possible
